Paul was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on May 1, 1959 to the late Thomas Jefferson Harris and Grace Marie Harris as the youngest of 8 children. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Doris Harris. He also leaves to cherish his memory three children, LaKeesha Sedgewick (Winston) of Newport News Virginia, Joshua Caldwell of Indianapolis Indiana, Tenisha Williams (Dominique) of Hampton Virginia and two grandchildren Leila and Elijah Williams.
He also leaves behind 7 brothers and sisters; Janet Truesdale, Chavis Harris (Karen), Thomas Harris (June), Wanda Giles (Larry), Jonathan Harris, Hazel Blunt (Jesse), Michael Harris (Laurie) and one step sister Jacquelyn Johnson (Calvin). He also has a host of nieces and nephews as well as loving aunts and uncles.
Paul enlisted in the United States Army on July 6, 1978 and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring after 21 years of service to Virginia Beach, Virginia. His tours of duty (to include combat) took him to numerous countries and states. He served extended tours in Germany, where he met and later married the love of his life Doris Sargk. They did everything together and were extremely devoted to each other. Both Paul and Doris had an entrepreneurial spirit and opened successful businesses to include ownership and management of rental properties, commercial cleaning, and retail sales.
Paul is best remembered by his family as someone who was always there for everyone else. Generous, he would hear of a problem and show up to help where needed. Strong, he was often referred to as a “man’s man.” He was fiercely protective of his family and would not hesitate to take whatever steps needed to ensure their safety.
A memorial service will be held at Smith & Williams Funeral Home in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. The family requests donations be made in his honor, to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
