Joseph Patrick (Pat) Conrad, 84, born in Denver, yet considers Virginia Beach his home, went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2016. Pat was an avid golfer and a member of Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club. He was also an active member at St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Pat served in the Army for two years and then worked as a contractor for a few companies on projects for several military branches. He earned a BA in mathematics from Old Dominion University. He enjoyed 24 years in Civil Service for the U.S. Government. His later years were spent as a Mini/Micro Systems Branch Head, CINCLANT, Atlantic Intelligence Command (AIC), associated with the Department of Defense. He was recognized for superior professional performance given his many contributions toward enhancing automated systems for military Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence in support of our national defense. He retired January 1994 and was awarded the prestigious Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Then, he enjoyed work as a tax preparer at Jackson Hewitt for many years. Pat was a member of the auxiliary and a volunteer at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.
Pat is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Conrad, his two daughters, Cathy Peate (Don) and Janet Moore (Jerry), grandchildren, Leslie Samuelson (Eben), Brian Peate, Denver Moore, Jeremy Moore, Dustin Moore (Jenny) and great-grandchildren, Ryder Peate, Blakely Samuelson, Gwyneth and Jack Moore.
There will be a funeral mass at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, at 11am on Thursday, January 7th with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Wednesday, January 6th at Rosewood- Kellum Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tree of Lights, C/O Auxiliary of Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, 2025 Glenn Mitchell Drive, Virginia Beach, 23456 or The First Tee of Hampton Roads, 2400 Tournament Drive, Virginia Beach, 23456.
