Ochoy Go Yu Ong

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ochoy Go Yu Ong, passed away on December 9, 2024, at the remarkable age of 93. Born on February 2, 1931, in the small town of Amoy, Fujian, China, Ochoy was one of six siblings, growing up surrounded by the love of two older brothers, two older sisters, and one younger brother.

On May 10, 1949, she married the love of her life, Roberto Mojares Yu Ong. Together, they began their life in China, where Ochoy’s intelligence and education earned her recognition as a respected community leader and town representative at various gatherings.

As political changes swept through China, Ochoy and Roberto sought a better future, relocating to the Philippines. Along the way, she gave birth to their first child in Hong Kong while awaiting travel documents. Once in the Philippines, Ochoy worked alongside her husband to build a new life, helping him establish and manage several businesses, including an automotive supply store.

Beyond her devotion to her family, Ochoy found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved cooking delicious meals that brought her family together, exploring new places through travel, and solving sudoku puzzles with her sharp mind. She also had a fondness for shopping, delighting in finding special items for her loved ones. These hobbies reflected her vibrant spirit and zest for life.

Family was at the center of Ochoy’s life. A devoted and loving mother, she was blessed with 10 children, four sons and six daughters, who fondly called her “Mama.” Her nurturing spirit extended to her 17 grandchildren, who knew her as “Gua-ma” and “I-ma,” and her 9 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Tai-ma.” Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, bound together by shared memories, love, and laughter.

Ochoy is survived by her children: Carmencita (Beia), Eduardo (Ed), Angelina (Bubut), Arsenio (Shoti), Rebecca (Bekang), Elizabeth (Liza), Imelda (Mel), Maribeth (Beth), and Marvin (Pogi).

Grandchildren: JR, Didi, Roy, Rein, Huey, EJ, Erynn, Breeshia, Elijah, Chelle, Meia, Rand, Michi, Rex, Red, Alexis, and Gabby. Great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Daniel, Enzo, Zoey, Derek, Yulia, Delilah, Yugo, and Margeaux.

Ochoy now rests in eternal peace alongside her beloved husband, Roberto Mojares Yu Ong, and her eldest son, Roberto Go Mojares, Jr. Her love, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to her family will forever be cherished and remembered. Through her family, her beautiful spirit endures—a guiding light that continues to shine brightly in their hearts.
