Nellie I. Allen

God in His infinite wisdom, called Nellie Irene Allen home to glory on June 3, 2014. Nellie was born to the late John Sharit and Georgia Hicks Morrison on May 22, 1934 in Milton, Florida. Her husband James R. Allen and sister Myra Russo precede her in death.

Nellie married the love of her life, James R. Allen in 1956 in Washington D.C. She is a long time member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA, and worked in retail for many years.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Terrance E. Allen and wife Stella; sisters LaSylvia Hicks, Barbara Jean Lauderdale, Louise Ducksworth, Savannah David and Mary Catherine Hollis; and two grandchildren Tyler and Brittany.

The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2201 Wingfield Ave., Chesapeake, VA 23324, officiated by Rev. Dr. Shawn J. Singleton. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
