Mike was predeceased by long-term love, Anne Hyatt, of Virginia Beach; parents, John J. & Muriel T. Whalen, of Norfolk, VA; and brother, Joe Whalen, of Chesapeake, VA. He was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, and a retiree from the Norfolk Fire Department in 1997 after 30 years.
Mike is survived by children, Barbara Mostoller (Paul) of Virginia Beach and Dean Whalen (Lori Anne) of Bowling Green, KY and other extended family. He was Pop Pop to grandchildren, Bryan Donison (Christa), Wesley Whalen (Rachel), Kierston Whalen, Nikki Wasco (Matt), Kristi Purdy (Bryan), Jill Wood and 7 greats.
Visitation will be held at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home in Virginia Beach on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 1:00 pm with service to follow at 2:00 pm and burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Reception will be at Barb’s house.
