Mary B. Williams

Mary B. Williams was born on June 10, 1917 to the late Leroy and Christine Mitchell Bright. She lived a blessed life of 96 yrs filled with joy, service, great health, and peace. On Wed April 23, 2014, while surrounded by her children in her daughter Patricia's family home, she prayerfully passed into eternal rest.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell Williams, with whom she built a loving home and many wonderful family memories at 1464 Old Virginia Beach Road. She was predeceased by her brothers, James Sawyer and Leander Sawyer, and her beloved daughter, Christine O. Mitchell.

Mrs. Williams' life can be characterized by her dedication to her Christian faith, family, and her work ethic. Mother Mary, as she was affectionately called by most, had a zest for living and a wonderful sense of humor throughout her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory twelve children; one of whom she was always with for the last two years: Louis Smith (Ruth), Russell Lee (Debbie), David, Patricia Ann (Steve Walke), Deborah Lorraine (William White), Shirlene Thomas, Barbara, Melvin, Joan, Caroline (Wilson Rose), Joyce (Gilbert Bland), and James (Angela); and four generations of grandchildren. Surviving family members include Cousin Thomas Mitchell: her sister-in-law, Margaret Davis; and a nephew, James M. Sawyer.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at the Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

Mother Mary remained an active member of the Upper Room Church on the Rock. Her Homegoing Service will be on Monday, April 28 at 11 a.m. in the New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church, 5549 Indian River Rd, Virginia Beach. Condolences can be made at www.kellumfuneralhome.com -
