Our Beloved Martin departed this life on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Martin Leonard Gill, affectionately known as “Mike”, was born on August 16, 1950 in Wetumpka Alabama to the late Gilbert Gill and Alice Mae Cook. He was the oldest son of four. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Gill and Daughter; Venisha Gill. Mike graduated from Virginia’s first accredited high school for African Americans,
Booker T. Washington HS. He then went on to attend the historical HBCU, Norfolk State University. Mike later decided to make serving our Country his career. After three years in the Army National Guard, Mike transferred to the Army Reserve, where he served 24 years. He was a well-respected Army Drill Sergeant. At 60 years of age, Sergeant First Class Gill retired from the Army after 27 years of service. Mike also
retired from the United States Postal Service after more than 30 years of dedicated service to his community. Mike will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Ann Gill; with whom he was married to for nearly 49 years.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy, his beloved children; daughter, Chantelle Hunter and Son in Love, Monquez Hunter. Siblings: Juanita Gill, Sandra Keith, and Stephanie Gill-Taylor and spouse, El’Dawn Taylor. Grandson Marquez Brown, Great Grandson: Kaison Brown, and a host of other relatives and friends.
