After graduating from Grays Chapel High School in June of 1962 she enlisted in the United States Navy where she was stationed at Norfolk Naval Air Station. While stationed in Norfolk she met Dewey W. Frazier on a blind date set up by mutual friends. Three months later August 31, 1963, they were married in Elizabeth City, NC and remained married until Dewey’s death in 2007 one week shy of their 44th wedding anniversary.
Marie graduated from Tidewater Community College as Summa Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Accounting in 1976. Shortly after receiving her degree, she was employed as an analyst with Norfolk Naval Station Supply Center where she received numerous awards for excellence until her retirement in 2000 so she could stay home and take care of her grandson Ray.
Marie enjoyed working in her yard having one of the prettiest yards in the neighborhood, people passing by would often stop and comment on her yard. She was also the biggest fan at all her grandsons’ sporting events.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Roy Gooch and Betty Jane Trogdon Gooch.
Her brother, Roy Lee Gooch (Mary Lou); Her sisters, Louise Kimes (John), Mary Brady (Bennie), Ann Gallimore (Ray), Sue Shores (Charles) and Jeanne Gooch; and her brother-in-law, Ron Moore.
Marie is survived by her loving daughters, Sandra Renee Smith and Jill Marie Frazier; son in law, Ray G. Smith Jr.; her grandson the apple of her eye, Ray G. Smith III and bonus granddaughter, Maggie Smith Evans (Brian). She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Moore Spokane WA; sister-in-law, Betsy Frazier of Norfolk VA and numerous nieces and nephews. Special lifelong friends, Roy and Michelle Tierce who where their neighbors in the early 60’s and throughout numerous duty stations and beyond.

A graveside service for Mabel will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
