Lawrence Thomas Burke went to be with the Lord on Saturday, 2/6/2021. He was born 2/14/1939 in Norwalk, CT to Thomas Joseph and Maybelle Louise (Gorman) Burke. He joined the Army right out of high school and was stationed in Germany for 8 years; his love of German food remained forever. Larry retired from Checkered Flag after 22 years in 2001 but continued as a DX Driver for many years. After retiring, he volunteered at Sentara Leigh Hospital where he was loved by many. Larry was an avid motorcyclist for many years and later progressed to a Trike. He was instrumental in getting the Garden State Parkway to reopen for motorcycles in 1974 and initiated the formation of Virginia Moto Guzzi Motorcycle Club upon moving to Virginia in 1979. Larry, also known as “Unk”, “Burke”, and “Butch” loved his motorcycle and enjoyed camping, cruises to anywhere, outdoor games, yardwork, and spending time with his family and friends.
Larry was predeceased by his brother, Raymond (Bud). He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Frances Denson Burke, son Daniel and wife Kathy, grandson Cameron, and great grandson Maverick; Sisters Elaine Schutte and Karen Roeder and sister (in-law) Susan Johnson. He is also survived by a host of favorite nieces and nephews and other wonderful family and friends.
A celebration of life will be planned for a future date.
