Kathryn Ann (Kay) Jones Tabor went to be with her Lord and Savior, January 27, 2021. Kathryn was born on December 12, 1932 in Wellington, Kansas. She was predeceased by her parents of Gus A and Mattie Dell Ford Jones and her husband Nolan L Tabor and ten siblings.
She is survived by her six children, Rhonda (George) Glazner, Chesapeake, Tina (Steve) Boyle Lynchburg, Alice Ann (Carl) Sabatini, Morrisville, North Carolina, Bennett (Cari) Tabor, Poquoson, Jeanne (Carter) Barnard, Missouri, and Nola (Jeffrey) Sawyer, Virginia Beach. She has fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Kathryn spent most of her adult life in service to Al Anon serving as program chair, treasurer, general representative, chair of Virginia area assembly, world service conference Virginia representative and literary committee member and co-authored several books including “Courage to Change Daily Reader.” She felt Al Anon was second home and she enjoyed helping others dealing with alcoholic family members. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Crisis Pregnancy Center as a counselor and Sentara Leigh Hospital as a patient advocate.
Kathryn graduated from Wellington High School in 1950 and she received her BS from St. Leo University in 2000. She began her working career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. She worked for the Christian Broadcasting Network from 1975 until 1990 where she started the special correspondence department and Landmark Communications from 1990 until December 1997 as an executive receptionist.
She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. Kathryn was known for her beautiful singing voice. She participated in the annual Messiah sing-a-long and was a soprano in many regional choral groups and church choirs.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, 12:00 Noon at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 150 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, Va.
