On Saturday, September 24, 2022, Command Master Chief José Garcia, United States Navy Retired, passed away. He was born on August 19, 1940, in Mindanao, Philippines, where he joined the United States Navy and honorably served for thirty years. On November 19, 1961 he married Guadalupe Jimenez. They raised one daughter, Vivianne, and three sons, Joseph, Jerry and Larry.
Command Master Chief Garcia was known for his love in spending time with his family, relatives and ensuring that his grandchildren lived their dreams. Their success was his pride and joy. He enjoyed serving his church, the community and was a loyal member of the Freemasonry. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, faithfulness, his service to his country, his Philippine customs and the love he put into his delicious cooking.
He is survived by his wife Guadalupe of 61 years, his four children, and ten grandchildren, his sisters Salud Diaz and Irma Fuentes, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Emilio Garcia and his mother Rita Cuevas.
A visitation will on Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 4pm to 5pm for immediate family/relatives and 5pm to 7pm for all guests, at Rosewood- Kellum Home & Memorial Park, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11am at St. Gregory the Great, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 followed by a funeral procession/full military honors burial to Rosewood-Kellum Home & Memorial Park, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
