John Guthrie Williams, Sr

John Guthrie Williams Sr., 99, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023. Born in Princess Anne County to the late Roger and Mary Elizabeth Williams, he was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in North Africa during World War II. He married his lifelong sweetheart, Mary Moore Williams, in 1950, and they shared almost 68 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2018. John and Mary had a special and dear friendship and marriage, building a beautiful life together. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John loved his family dearly. For over 40 years, John and Mary grew their successful business, Williams Farm Produce. A hard working farmer, John treasured sharing his produce with the community. Twice he was recognized as Famer of the Year. John and Mary’s legacy lives on through the Williams Farm Recreation Center and Aragona Village Little League Park. John’s family would like to sincerely thank his devoted caregiver, Diane Wright, whose support and care allowed John to spend his last years of life in his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by two of his children, John G. Williams Jr. and Virginia Garbarini (Philip); his four grandchildren John, Jennifer (Ryan), Katie (Patrick), Anthony; and his great-grandchild Finley. John is now reunited in heaven with his wife Mary, his daughter Mary Anne, and his daughter-in-law Linda. This kind, generous, cheerful man will be missed by all who knew him. A graveside service will be held on November 20, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local rescue squad.
