Mr. Nelson was born in Lenoir, NC and was preceded in death by his parents John H. Nelson and Alice Robbins Nelson and his wife Isabel H. Nelson, five brothers and one sister. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II and retired as a foreman from the Naval Air Rework Facility. He was a life member of the Aragona Lions Club and a former active member of Wayside Manor-River Forrest Shores Civic League. John was a loving and caring father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his two children, Elizabeth Washburn and her son Matthew; John Nelson and Annetta K. Hunter and their children, Anna and David and two great grandchildren, Angel and Travis, Jr. He was also survived by a brother Hubert Nelson of Lenoir, NC and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mr. Nelson’s life will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2 p.m. at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home.
