JoAnn McMurray, 85, of Virginia Beach, passed from this earthly life into her eternal life on March 14, 2025 after a long illness. JoAnn was born in Youngstown, Ohio to her parents Joseph James Haus, II and Marian Catherine Graff on January 14, 1940. She met the love of her life, John Gerald "Jack" McMurray in 1958 and were married in 1960. They had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on October 22.
JoAnn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her Lord Jesus with all of her heart and instilled this in her family. Her compassion for life and for having fun will always be remembered to those who knew her.
JoAnn worked most of her career both in Ohio and then in Virginia Beach at JCPenney, retiring as the Office Supervisor. After a few years of retirement, she took a position as a docent at the Francis Land House in which she extremely enjoyed, being the history buff that she was. She especially loved guiding the tours for the school children.
While she and Jack loved to travel, her happiest times were spent at their RV on Bells Island, NC jet-skiing or just relaxing with her family and the dogs.
JoAnn was preceded into Heaven by her parents; her beloved son, Michael: and her dear brother Joseph James Haus III.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Jack, devoted daughter Charlene Hewitt (David), daughter-in-law Christina McMurray Minton, and son John. There are six loving grandchildren, David Jr., (Chessy), Kristen Boersma (Luke), Julie Hewitt, Daniel McMurray (Sage), Jonathan McMurray, and Emily Schrink (Dristan). Also, she was so proud to have her six great-grandchildren, Eliana, David III, Anthony, Eden, Brinleigh and Zane.
Charlene and Dave would like to thank the caregivers who gave their unconditional love in caring for both JoAnn and Jack 24/7. Roxanne, Keonya, Elizabeth, Jaclyn, and Joyce.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
