Born on February 8, 1917 in Washington, NC, he was the son of the late Edward F. and Mary Irene (Latham) Black. He was preceded by his loving wife Mary of 76 years. Survived by his three devoted sons; Byron (Debra), Larry (Cindy) and Gary (JoAnne) Black, 4 grandchildren: Rodney and Chris Black, Kirk Black and Kelly Black Franke. He was blessed with numerous Great Grandchildren and a large extended family. Jesse’s open heart and deep love for his family was the center of his life. He was a true southern gentleman with a strong work ethic. He retired from the civil service as a carpenter at Little Creek Naval Base. Born of simple beginnings, his life set an example for all who knew him. Jesse and Mary were a pillar of strength, hope and love to their family. Together they lived everyday as role models though their example, compassion and acceptance.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Funeral Home.
