James Edward "Jim," "Jimmy" Bowden, 78, went to be with our Lord on Fri., Nov. 15, 2019 with his loving wife Peggy and family members by his bedside. A lifetime area resident, Jim was born in Norfolk. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and went on to retire from the Ford Motor Co. after 40 years. Jim had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of the Christianaires Gospel Group. Jim loved serving the Lord and his church, having performed many duties there, most recently as a Church Elder.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alton and Ella Jane Bowden, and a brother, Garland Bowden. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Peggy H. Bowden; daughter, Dawn Bowden; sons, Danny Bowden and wife Kimberly, David Bowden and wife Aliza all of Atlanta, GA; son, Jamie Taylor and fiance Michelle of Carrolton, VA; loving sister, Marie Morrisette of Va. Beach; four grandchildren, Chase, Alyssa, Austin, and Hannah; and loving cousin, Helen Martinette.
A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m., Tues., Nov. 19, 2019 at Laurel Avenue Church of Christ, officiated by Minister Kirk Dice, 1126 Laurel Ave., Chesapeake. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations in Jim's honor to be made to the church. We love you Jim, "Jimmy" and will greatly miss you.
