Harry spent the majority of his life in Virginia Beach, where he built a legacy as a dedicated family man and a quiet, strong presence in the lives of those who knew him. He was the son of Lloyd and Bertie Harris and grew up alongside his two sisters, Janet and Judy.
Harry devoted his entire career to the Norfolk Naval Air Depot, beginning as an airplane mechanic and retiring in 1992 as a respected supervisor. His mechanical aptitude extended into his personal life, where he enjoyed repairing bicycles and finding creative solutions to home repairs. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed growing a vegetable garden every summer. In retirement, Harry discovered a hidden artistic side through woodworking, creating pieces that reflected his meticulous craftsmanship. His beautiful bowls, vases, boxes, and carvings are treasured keepsakes to many in his family.
Harry was predeceased by his loving wife, Sandy, of 52 years. He is survived by his son Mark; his daughter Wendy and her husband Chris; two beloved granddaughters, Savannah and Annabelle; and his nephew Jon Williams, along with Jon’s wife Mojdeh and their son Colby. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A brief service to honor Harry’s life will be held on Friday, December 27, at 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, located at 601 N. Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Heart Association in Harry’s memory at https://ahatribute.funraise.org/fundraiser/haroldharris
Harry’s quiet strength and dedication to his family will remain an enduring source of comfort to those who loved him. May his memory live on in their hearts forever.
