Virginia Beach - Gerald “Jerry” Andrew Stein, 71, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Aug. 23, 2015. He was born on Nov. 27, 1943 to the late Frank and Sophie Stein. Jerry was raised in Chicago until he joined the US Navy at the age of 17 from which he retired after 20 years. He continued his career with civil service at NADEP. He also worked as a long distance truck driver for Gordon Paper Co. Jerry was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 40 years. He was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Stein; step-son, Robert Kitchens; children, Tammy, Shirley, Tracy, and Dennis; sister, Rosalee Waterlander; and cousin, Mary Ann Smotrilla.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. A mass will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Venancio Balarote. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
