George Henry Hale, Jr.

George Henry Hale, Jr., 78, passed away on December 19, 2021, in Portsmouth, VA. George was born in Nansemond County, VA to the late George Henry, Sr., and Highlee Hale. He was also predeceased by his son, Sean Hale, grandson, Jamarr Hale, sister, Betty Brown, and brother, Walter Hale. George was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He prioritized his life on his family. He served on the Deacon Board at Poplar Run Baptist Church and was the bass guitarist in The Southern Hummingbirds of Suffolk gospel group. Kindhearted and generous to anybody that came his way. He was a mentor to not only his family and many others impacted throughout his life. He is cherished in memory by his wife, Joyce (Elaine) Hale; children, Jeffrey (Geovona), Guy (Rebecca), and Sheldon (Sondras); siblings, Alice Durden, Mary Hale, Matthew Hale, W. Beatrice Hale; grandchildren, Jasmine, Deshawna, Charles, Isaiah, Imani, Jasmen, Montega, Jalen, Sheldon, Alexis, Brandon, Armain, Ce’quan, Courtney, Malcolm, Sean, Keith, Bria, Alyssa, and over 20 great grandchildren and his special great-grandchild, Bailey.

A visitation will be from 6-8pm, Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11am, Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Little Grove Baptist Church, Suffolk, VA.
