Frances Carolyn Strickland, 83, of Free Union, VA and formerly of Virginia Beach, went to be with the lord on November 17, 2010. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Henry Jennings Strickland. Mrs. Strickland and her husband were the owners of Jewelry and Gifts by Kamala for many years in Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Strickland was an advocate for those with Down syndrome. She played an active role in the old Tidewater Association for Retarded Citizens, TARC, where she was a director for a term. Mrs. Strickland earned a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University with an emphasis in mental retardation.
She is survived by her sons, William Wade Strickland, II, and Henry Jennings Strickland, II; daughter, Carolyn Maria Strickland; 4 grandchildren, Felicia Marie Strickland, Brenda Edwards, and Elias Ryan Wolfe; 2 great-grandchildren, Judith Edwards and Lily Marie Olsen; her beloved twin brother, William McCray; and her loving care-giver, Michael Paul Pryblak.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church with Rev. Bret Woodall, officiating. Interment in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service.
