Evelyn Foster Alvis

Evelyn Grace Foster Alvis passed away on June 30, 2023. She was born in Campbell County, Virginia on May 9, 1926. She was the daughter of Edwin Grey Foster and Mary Essie Williams Foster. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Wallace Lee Alvis, brothers, Marvin Grey Foster, Robert Ray Foster, and Merle Dean Foster, and sister Carloyn Foster Griles.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Elizabeth Alvis Williams and husband George, a son, Gary Foster Alvis and wife Patricia, four grandchildren, Kevin Williams and wife Victoria, Brian Williams, Jaime Alvis and husband Matthew Cook, Kelly Alvis Bisogno and husband Michael, seven great grandchildren, Elijah, Evelyn and Emma Bisogno, Samantha, Katilynn and Bradley Williams, Norah Dell Alvis Cook, sisters Peggy McGee, Eloise Foster Saunders, sisters in law Jean Foster, Alice Foster, Georgina Foster, and numerous nephews and nieces.

She retired from the City of Norfolk as a financial clerk after 15 years. She was a long time member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving the church as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, nursery worker, as well as cooking for church socials and the monthly Hospice Aids Program. She had a talent for homemaking, sewing, cooking, and working with the Girl Scouts. She was also active in the Garden Club and Lake Taylor Civic League.

Her funeral will be held at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 11th at 11am followed by burial at Rosewood Memorial Park, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
