Elsie Pressley Welsted

Our mom, Elsie P. Welsted, passed away on April 28, 2023. She was born in Carthage NC and moved to Norfolk after high school. Elsie worked for 30 years as a computer programmer at the Norfolk Naval Base. After retiring from civil service, she continued her education, graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree from Old Dominion University. She is preceded in death by her oldest son, “little mister” as well as her son-in-law, Stephen L. McDougall. She is survived by her children, Steven Craig Welsted (Karen Welsted); William C. Welsted (Melissa Welsted) and Carrolyn W. McDougall. She is also survived by her grandson, Dylan Welsted (son of Steve Welsted). Our mom lost her oldest child to cancer at age 7 and dealt with many family crises over the years, but still managed to have a successful career and raise 3 children on her own. Our mom lived to be 90, but suffered with dementia the last 5 years of her life. I hope that one day there will be a cure for this terrible disease.
