Edith is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Elliott Jones; parents, Walter Bunyan Gusler and Eva Agee Gusler; brother, Leon B. Gusler and granddaughter, Alison Marie Baker. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Josephine Annette Jones, Judith Jones Baker and husband, Edward A. Baker and John Elliott Jones; grandchildren, Diane Elizabeth Baker, Michelle Baker Hall, Alan Baker and Kimberly Hope Hamrick; great-grandchildren, Joshua Hamrick and Kirra Hamrick; sisters, Geraldine G. Lawless and Evadell G. Rogers and several nieces and nephews.
Edith was born in Woolwine, Virginia on December 7, 1923. She graduated from Buffalo Ridge Mission School, Ferrum Junior College and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Emory & Henry College. After many years of service, she retired from the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. She was a faithful member of Salem United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the Choir and working in fellowship with the Quilter’s Group. She served as President of the United Methodist Women and Chairman of the Administrative Board. She also served as Vice President of the District United Methodist Women.
Edith was a talented seamstress and loved to crochet and quilt. She enjoyed traveling after her retirement. Edith was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She always tried to fulfill the needs and desires of her husband and children.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Salem United Methodist Church at 2057 Salem Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23456 at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park at 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
