IN THE CARE OF
Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home & Rosewood Memorial Park
With great sadness, the family of Earnest A. Murphy, Jr., age 81 of Chesapeake, Virginia announces his passing on June 9, 2024. Ernie was born in Norfolk, VA. on June 8, 1943. He was predeceased by his father, Earnest A. Murphy, Sr. and his mother, Annie Nix Murphy.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Dolores Chappell Murphy. Ernie is also survived by his three children, Kevin Murphy, Karen Hibbard (Jay), and Todd Murphy (Ashley) and five grandchildren, Gretchen, Nicholas, Evelyn, Cullen and Flynn. Ernie, being an only child, treasured his relationship with many cousins.
He was a 1961 graduate of Oscar Smith High School and entered an apprenticeship at Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock. Enjoying meeting and interacting with people, he decided to start a career in sales and started his own confectionery sales brokerage business, Murphy & Associates, covering the state of Virginia.
Everyone who knew Ernie was taken by his compassion and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. Be it family, friends or neighbors, he was someone everyone could depend on. He was a loving husband and devoted father and granddaddy who gave us so many memories to treasure for a lifetime.
We would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Chesapeake Regional Hospice Care for their professional and caring attention over the past weeks, caring for him and his family. Memorial donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
