Earl W. Edwards, Jr. born August 27, 1930 (86) went to be with his Savior on May 1, 2017. Born in Norfolk, VA and resided in Virginia Beach, VA. He is predeceased by the love of his life of 54 years, Hazel K. Edwards, his father Earl W. Edwards, Sr. and his mother Lucy Hamill Edwards.
He is survived by his devoted sister and best friend, Betty Gayheart, two sons, Earl W. Edwards III (Andrea) and Mark P. Edwards (Linda), and his only daughter, Lydia K. Tomko. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Dana Brown (Bob), Christie Edwards, Jessica Adair (Stephen), Madyson Edwards, Meghan Nixon (Antone) and Dylan Tomko. He also has 6 loving great grandchildren, Mason Edwards, Mycah Adair, Sawyer Adair, Conner Brown, Colin Brown, and Maddox Nixon as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl was a veteran in the US Coast Guard stationed on a lighthouse in Southern Florida. He served 35 years with the Norfolk Fire Department going through the ranks and retiring as Captain. He worked alongside a number of his colleagues throughout the years that he truly remembered fondly. Stories could be told all day of remembered days in the Fire Department.
Earl loved being in the woods hunting with his two sons and watching old western movies especially those with John Wayne. He also enjoyed working with his son, Mark, doing upholstery, a craft he learned from his father and continued throughout his life.
A gathering of friends and family will be at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, Witchduck Road, between 6 and 8 Friday evening. Funeral services will be conducted at Old Donation Episcopal Church at 10:30am Saturday, May 6, 2017 with internment following at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. A reception to follow immediately after at Old Donation Church Parrish Hall. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Old Donation Episcopal Church.
