Dorothy Jean Shelters 82, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Helen Brodie. Dot was employed as a dedicated receptionist for 35 years at Smith &Williams Funeral Home in Virginia Beach, Virginia where she resided until the age of 80 years old. Upon retiring, Dot resided with her loving daughter, Helen and son-in-law, Mark in Hanson, MA.
Dot was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. She was a kind, compassionate, strong, and courageous woman who made everyone she knew feel special. One of Dot’s greatest joys was sharing her life with her beloved daughter, Helen, son-in-law, Mark, and Daisy, a cherished Bichon Frise. Every August, she especially enjoyed family vacations at the picturesque beaches in the Outer Banks, North Carolina.
Dot took great pleasure in observing nature at Oldham Pond in Hanson, MA, family events, walks with her daughter Helen and Daisy, fishing in the Outer Banks, shopping, knitting clothes for her grandchildren, dancing, and listening to country music.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen London and husband Mark , and Vikki Flesher; grandchildren Krystal Scire and husband Giuseppe, Natalie Satcher and husband Chad, Nathan Klemstine, and Patrick Flesher; great-grandchildren Arianna and Gisele Scire; step-father, Robert Brodie; and her family at Smith & Williams Funeral Home.
Dot will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her beauty, humor, vibrant caring ways, gentle hearted nature will be eternally cherished by her beloved family and friends.
A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Kempsville Chapel of Smith & Williams Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
