Dorothy Thompson Onley-Upton

Dorothy J. Thompson Onley-Upton went to be with the Lord at the age of 96 on the 12th of January, 2023. Dorothy was born April 8th, 1926 in Hot Springs, VA. She was the daughter of William L. and Bessie G. Thompson. Dorothy loved the Lord as evidenced by her faithful service to her churches throughout the years. For the last 25 years, she was a dedicated member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Dinwiddie County. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Carolyn Anglin; a brother, William L. Thompson, Jr.; and a grandchild, Danny R. Upton, Jr. She is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, Dan M. Upton Sr.; her son, Andrew Julian Onley; and a brother, Isaac Rowland Thompson. Dorothy had many bonus children, Danny Upton, Sr.; James Upton (Donna); Peggy Shultz (Jaye); and Mitch Upton (Dawn). Dorothy has 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several loving nieces and nephews. Dorothy never met a stranger, she extended kindness to anyone she met. She had a wide collection of butterfly pendants. She loved reading her Bible, and enjoyed traveling. Funeral services will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, Monday, January 16, 2023 at 10:30am, with interment following. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Smyrna Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, VA at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Smyrna Baptist Church, Building or Benevolence funds, 18725 Carson Road, Dinwiddie, VA.
