David was born on November 21, 1959, in Norfolk, Virginia. He grew up attending Glengariff Baptist Church, as did his wife, Tina. They were married on June 12, 1982. David graduated from Lake Taylor High School; Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota; and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. His first pastorate was in Calverton, Virginia, followed by 29 years as pastor of Brook Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. He was greatly influenced by the ministry of Dr. John Piper, who was his college advisor and pastor. He was also impacted by the teachings of R.C. Sproul and C.H. Spurgeon.
David loved the mountains, especially the Blue Ridge and the Smokies. He took his family to his favorite places in the mountains every year. He was an avid reader, and he especially enjoyed the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and non-fiction historical accounts.
David was a devoted minister and member of his community. He lived for the glory of God, committing his life to caring for others, faithfully teaching the Word of God and serving tirelessly to meet the needs of the hungry. His greatest concern was that we would see and savor Jesus Christ in every area of our lives. Now he sees that everything he taught us is true.
David is survived by his father, William; his mother, Barbara; his brother, James and sister-in-law, Debbie; his wife, Tina; and his sons, Nathanael and Jonathan. He was an extremely dedicated husband, father, brother, and son who will be deeply missed.
