Connie Edward Burton, Jr.

Connie E. (Ron) Burton, Jr. 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend passed away June 11, 2015. Ron was born in Harvest, Alabama, on November 30,1935 to the late Connie Burton Sr. and Lena Mae Burton. Ron served in the United States Navy for 19 and a half years and served a tour in Vietnam. He was assigned to USS Mansfield DD-728 which has traveled to Hawaii, Japan Korea and China. His last duty station before retiring was NAS Oceana.

After retiring from military duties and graduating college, he worked at the Newport News Naval Shipyard.

He was a graduate of Norfolk State University with a degree in Industrial Arts. Ron also had his own business for over 20 years, Burton's Pest Control.

Ron loved to fish and bowl. He loved the blues and classic TV shows and yard work. Ron was very proud of bowling a perfect 300 game.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Jeanette Hereford Burton; his three daughters, Winona Green (Priest) of Suffolk, Brenda Burford (Robert) of Norfolk, and Bridgett Valentine (Glenn) of Christiansburg; and one son, Fred Scott of Alabama. He will be missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends and a special friend E.W. Bates. Family will receive friends Tues., June 16, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home 601 N. Witchduck Rd, Va Beach. A celebration of life for Ron will be held Wed., June 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
