Clarence E. (C.E.) Harris Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA. passed away on December 23, 2024 at the age of 90. He was born on January 22, 1934, to the late Clarence Ervine Harris Sr. & Emma Gimbert Harris in Charlottesville, VA. C.E. graduated from Oceana High School in 1954. He proudly served the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1960.
As a teenager, C.E. joined the Harris family business, C.E. Harris & Sons Upholstery and Refinishing, and continued to work there until his retirement due to health issues in 2022. He was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce where he served as President in 1962. He was also a member of the Tidewater Beekeepers Association for many years. He loved to talk about the honeybee and its benefits to us.
Since the age of three, C.E. was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years and served as a Deacon.
Gospel music was how C.E. and Janice first met. Radio station WYFI FM BBN was his favorite local radio station. In his upholstery shop that radio station was on 24/7, and customers always knew they would hear fine music and God’s word preached.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 60 years, Janice Greene Harris, and his children Katrina Lindquist (Steve) of Valrico, FL, Teresa Sarkela (Matthew) of Maple Grove, MN, and son Henry Hamilton Harris II of Virginia Beach, VA.; his sisters Betty Juanita Warren, Cynthia Ann Gregory both of Virginia Beach, VA.; his grandchildren K. Taylor Lindquist, Sarah A. Lindquist, Hadley K. Sarkela, William M. Sarkela II, and Henry H. Harris III. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence Ervine Harris Sr. and Emma Gimbert Harris of Virginia Beach, VA, and his brother Malcolm Henry Harris of Scottsville, VA.
A celebration of life will be held at 11am Monday, January 6, 2025, at London Bridge Baptist Church 2460 Potters Road, Virginia Beach, VA. Family will receive friends one hour prior.
