Christine Mary (Matthews) Capozzoli, 77, of Virginia Beach, VA passed away on February 15th, 2023 at home surrounded by loved ones. Loving wife of forty-five years to the late John Joseph “Cappy” Capozzoli, Christine was born in Glasgow, Scotland to the late Mary Ann “Mollie” (Scullion) and Joseph M. Matthews.
By herself at eighteen years of age, Christine emigrated from her native Scotland to the United States of America. She was joyfully employed as a nanny in Montclair, New Jersey and proudly became a naturalized citizen in 1973. The life of any party, Chris loved meeting people, telling jokes, playing games, and singing songs. She loved bingo, karaoke, and animals, especially the many dogs and cats she cared for over the years. She loved attending concerts and sporting events, especially to cheer on her children, husband, or the underdog and of course her favorite teams, the New York Jets, the New York Rangers, and the New York Cosmos.
Over the years Chris enjoyed working at Aramis - The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. and Food Town in Oakland, New Jersey where she also resided before moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia. While in Virginia Beach she was an honored employee at Rite Aid Pharmacy. Ever with a smile, Chris was a wise, caring mother and grandmother who was beloved by many friends, family, and co-workers. Her advice was to “always leave 'em laughing".
Christine is survived by her sons, Russ Zito and his wife Laura and John Capozzoli and his wife Svetlana; daughters, Susanne (Zito) Bass and her husband Brian and Jo Anne Zito; step-son, Scott Capozzoli and his wife Susan; step-daughters, Cindy Capozzoli and Kim (Capozzoli) Eletto and her husband William "Bill"; father of her three eldest children, Roger Zito; grandchildren, Ian, Kheara, Jarett, Taylor, Amaris, Quinlin, Gianna, Elizabeth, John, Scott, Cheree, Kara, and William; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley Matthews, sister, Carol Ann (Matthews) Mejury, sister-in law, Catherine Matthews, and many nieces and nephews.
