I had the privilege of working with Charles in the Master Gardener program. He worked with me on the Junior Master Gardener program when I was right out of training.  Charles was a wonderful man,  full of knowledge and skills that he was willing to share with everyone.  He was an inspiration to many of us in his search for gardening knowledge, developing his skills,  in gardening and woodworking, and his desire to teach people to enjoy the beauty of the world.  Thank you all for sharing him with us, and my condolences for the loss you are so deeply feeling.  With sincerest prayers for you all, Joan Kayser

May you find comfort knowing so many others mourn your loss.  Charles was a fine and respected individual.

The MAN is gone but his SPIRIT is with you forever; to guide you and watch over you.  Feel the breeze on your cheek, smell the sweet fragrance of the flowers that bloom, listen to the birds that sing.  This is your loved one letting you know that he is with you always.

All of my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family in their loss of such a fine person.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, hoping you will find peace and comfort in your memories.  
I had the honor to work with Charles on many Chesapeake Master Gardener programs and projects while I served as the VCE Horticulture Extension Agent in Chesapeake. I also worked with him on regional programs and delighted in seeing and visiting with him when attending educational events, after I transferred to Norfolk from Chesapeake.  Charles was a delight to work with because of his honesty, integrity, and his genuine love to learn and to share his knowledge with others.  I believe Charles could brainstorm  or build any solution for a garden.  His creativity and generosity with his knowledge and skills was endless.  A bright light has left our world and Chesapeake is a little darker because of this loss.  

To my children, my condolences on the untimely passing of your father.  You will always hold a special place in your hearts for you dad, as will I.   My Love To All, Love Mom

My sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.  I am honored to have had the opportunity to meet Mr. Lastinger and although our visit/chat was brief, I could tell you were a wonderful and talented man.  Mr. Lastinger your work on earth is done,  now your master gardening skills are needed in heaven.   Soar with the angels and continue to watch over us all from heaven.   

Charles,  through the sharing of your talents and  time, you contributed so much to the  Chesapeake Master Gardener program.  May God's grace embrace you on your new journey.
