You inspired me to be better, dream bigger, and reach higher. Thank you for your friendship, wisdom, and advice. Rest easy my friend.


Dan was a rockstar of the SMART community here in Richmond. He was an organizer, leader, happy face and person we all could lean on. We will miss him terribly. He helped so many of us, was a great example for so many of us, and just a happy heart and had great advice for may people who struggled.  He will be missed by the whole community here at VCU, VCAM. Our thoughts are with your family at his difficult time.


Uncle Dan was my go-to person, the one I could always count on to be up late with me watching the newest movies and to talk to about anything. He always kept me up-to-date with the latest on politics, I miss his daily rants on what was going on in the world. I will miss his witty comments and his sense of humor. I will miss him more than anyone could know.

My prayers are with you.  Dan dearly loved each of you.  The world revolved around his precious nieces and new great nephew.  He was a wonderful talented man.  I will miss his friendship, intelligence and insight.

Dan and I started out in the nursery at St. John Lutheran Church. He was brilliant and my brand of funny-razor sharp, dry, sarcastic. 

I loved his personal style. He dressed rather formally, especially for the '70s. He didn't wear vests and ties to school, but I never saw him in jeans and sneakers, either. 

I so admired his Mom, Sonja. She was a strong, confident woman who was also a great friend to my Mother. 

I am saddened by this great loss and I hope his family finds peace and comfort.

I find myself going through my day like usual and wanting to text him about what happened. I will miss moments like those the most. I will miss him more than anyone could know.

I first met Dan during my first month working in the Gather office in Short Pump. I was amazed by how interested he was in me, a complete stranger. About a week later I attended one of his siminars, where he welcomed me with open arms and healthy snacks. He shared wonderful experiences, amazing tips, and eased my overall stress levels of starting a new job. After that day, every single time I saw him in the halls, he made a point of checking up on me. His face seemed to lighten up whenever he talked with me or anyone else in the building, and I will always appreciate the time I got to spend with him. His bright smile and often flashy clothes will truly be missed. 

We would like to share our good wishes and condolences to Dan's family and friends.  Dan has been like a part of our family for the last 25 years.  He was a frequent guest at our daughter's home, Melanie Onushko, and we loved him for his concern for others, quick wit, and his wonderful sense of humor.  We will miss his friendship and his welcoming smile!

I am extremely sorry for your loss. I met Daniel earlier this year and considered him a friend. I am stunned that this friendship will not be able to grow and flourish. I will miss you Daniel.

I have so many fun memories of Danny on W. Locust St. It still makes me smile thinking about his little poodle Dutchess, having backyard carnivals, playing roulette/ casino on the front porch, and his being the host of our          
 " Beauty Pageants"! Some of the best times were listening to top 40 on Saturday night, and Danny gathering our money so he could go get a pizza( he was the only one who could drive). I remember another funny incident while he was driving- we were looking  for our lost dog Tiny, and we went done one of the allies. Somehow he got the car wedged between two split rail posts! It dented the car. We went home and quietly took a plunger to suck the dent out! Our winter snow woman we all built in Cathy's backyard named Marilyn was awesome- bigger than all of us with food coloring blonde hair and a colored dress. He was older, wiser, and  unique. He was somewhat secretive, rarely letting any of us in his room! Danny was a huge part of why growing up in that neighborhood was so much fun.
