Calvin (Poppy) Raymond Byas, age 40, of Norfolk, Virginia was born on July 11, 1980 in Queens, New York and passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021. He installed pools and was the co-owner of Deep Water Pools. He was strong in his faith and attended Rock Church. Calvin was very family oriented and spent a lot of time with his kids; he took them to the park every day and always did something special with them on the weekends. Calvin loved to work with his hands; he was always building or fixing something. In the past, he owned and operated In & Out Home Maintenance Co. The family referred to him as Pop the Builder, Might Max, and Super Dad (Darvyn). He was the protector of the family and they will miss him dearly.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Keyona Byas; parents, Calvin and Darlene Byas; 5 children, Kaylani Byas, Daniel James “DJ” Byas, Quiana Byas, Daeshona Blake, Alexus Blake (Darrell Schuck); brother Aaron McQueen (Margaret); 2 sisters, Kimberly Byas and Darlene LaGrande (Jonathan); 2.5 grandchildren, Raymond Mi’King, Ocean Alexus, and Tnias Holsey Jr. on the way.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 26, 2021, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Rock Church. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. You may offer condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
