Allan Gerald Barker, 74, of Virginia Beach passed away December 13, 2020. Born September 13, 1946 in Portland, Maine to parents Gerald and Margaret Forrest Barker, Allan spent his childhood in Maine. He served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War and went on to attend college at the University of Southern Maine and majored in English. Allan worked for General Electric (later KOCH Industries), for many years as a production manager and his career brought him to Virginia Beach, his home of over 30 years. After retirement, Allan spent his time enjoying his passions, motorcycles and fast cars, and became active in his gun club where he made many friends and served on the Board of Directors. Allan was best known for his humor, his honesty, and his steadfast loyalty to those fortunate to be counted his friends.
Allan is survived by his brother-in-law, Philip Cote; his niece, Jennifer Marie Edwards, and her children. He will be remembered by his many beloved friends who became his family over the years. Allan will be especially missed by his longtime friend, Marguerite Bartlett, and her children, Elisabeth Backus, née Anderson, Isaac Anderson, and Samuel Anderson, who have many memories of holidays and time spent with him. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Judith Cote, née Barker.
A memorial service will be held December 30, 2020 at 2:00 PM, at the Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to:
