

Albert was born in the Shiloh township of Camden county, NC March 22, 1929. Preceding his death are his parents, Harry Stevens Godfrey and Beatrice Whaley Godfrey; his wife of 48 years, Gloria Delayce Godfrey; his children two infant sons and his son Albert Jones Godfrey Jr.; his great granddaughter Tatyana “Taty” Monet Jennings; and his siblings Shirley Thoms, Thurman Godfrey and Jakie Phelps.
Left to cherish his memory are his 3 daughters Theresa Jean Beichner Steven and husband Alan of Virginia Beach, Deborah Ann Fitzreiter and husband Robert of Erie PA, Angela Delayce Joint of Erie PA; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, with one on the way; and sibling Nina Sykes of Chesapeake, VA
Albert served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a welder and pipefitter by trade and worked for several large companies such as Ford Motor Company, General Electric and on the Navy ships at various Norfolk shipyards, where he retired at the age of 67.
He was a country boy at heart and one of his greatest joys was working on his property in Moyock, NC landscaping, gardening, woodworking and just tinkering with different projects. He loved fishing, boating, camping, playing poker, Wii Bowling, listening to bluegrass and watching old westerns and his favorite football team the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
The family will receive visitors for the viewing at 10:00 am on Sunday, 9 January 2022, followed by the service at Noon and then reception at 1:00 pm. All 3 events will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA. The burial will be held at the same location Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on Monday, 10 January 2022 at 2:00 pm.
