He was born in Gueydan, was raised in Kaplan, and had been a resident of Vinton for the last 33 years. Ray enjoyed watching western movies, working in his yard, taking care of his "Caddy", and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Hancock and he retired as an insulator with Local 112. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Vinton. Ray will be dearly missed by his friends at the Pitt Grill whom he loved to entertain with his wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Adams; three children, Johnny Ray Adams and Carol Denise Turner, and Courtney Dionne Guillory and husband, Tommy; Aaron Turner; grandchildren, Jessi Lemoine and husband, Zachary, Savannah Turner, Whitney Adams, Quinn Turner, and Dannah Adams; great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Lemoine, and a great-grandson on the way, Colby Lemoine.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, August 12, in Emmanuel Baptist Church in Vinton. The Rev. Gerard Little will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation is from 3-9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Monday, all in the church.
