John Jessie Richard, 90, passed away on October 17, 2020. He was born in Ged, LA on April 21st, 1930 to John and Henrietta Richard. John was a lifelong resident of Vinton and was a devout member of St. Joseph Catholic Church were he served as an Altar Server, Usher, Eucharistic Minister, and was a true servant for his church family. He received the Diocese of Lake Charles Medal for Devoted Service from Bishop Provost in 2010, the Knights of Columbus Altar Server Award for serving for over 65 years, and the Maple Leaf Award from the Diocese of Lake Charles. John proudly served his country in the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was a Lifetime member of the American Legion - John C. Bowden Post 208 and VFW Harrington-LeBouef Post 9854. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6103.
John was always known as a kind, gentle, loving person. He lived his life simply and found joy in the little things of daily life. The most profound impact he had on his family was his unconditional love; his devotion to his family was his number one priority. John was an avid gardener and lover of animals and nature. He loved dancing and listening to Cajun French music. John Richard was a man of few words, his actions spoke loudly through compassion and love.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 66 years, Betty Richard; his children, Terry Richard and wife Rosie of Vinton, LA, Susan Richard and partner Kristie of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Dustin Richard (Kristin), Hannah Richard, Whitney Holzer, Matthew Richard; great-grandchildren, Millie, Marcus, and Tara; daughter-in-law, Jo Beth Richard; many nieces, nephews, and great friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Wayne Richard; siblings, Clifton Richard, Annie Burge, Lillie Mae Naquin, Irene Shepherd.
