James was a native and raised in Vinton, graduating from Vinton High School in 1969. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1970 and proudly served his country for 19 years retiring as a SFC in 1989. James served in the Vietnam War. He met his wife of 49 years, the love of his life Donna upon his return from Vietnam. They started their family and were stationed at several different bases stateside and abroad. He was a member of the American Legion Post 208. After retiring from the Army, James and his family settled in Vinton where he was employed with the U.S. Postal Service and retired as a letter carrier.
James enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors by the river, and grilling. He cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandkids!
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Donna Mornic Vice of Vinton; his children, Krystal (Robert) Nicholson of Deweyville, TX, Belinda Suzanne Vice of Vinton, and Kristofer James Vice of Vinton; his grandchildren, Saige, Kealey, Trey, Grace, Brody, Leah, Drue, Zoey, Gabriel, Kerah; his great-grandchildren, Taytum, Ezra, Eliza, Elaina, Kailyn, Emma, Deacon, Ridge, Brayden, Copeland, Jasper, Blaine; his siblings, Judith Vice of Vinton, Susan (Tom) Berry of Vinton, Thomas (Carol) Vice of Vinton, Michael (Vita) Walker of Willis, TX, Stacey (Darby) McDermott of Galveston, TX, Edwin Vice of Vinton; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Nicholas Cole.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, September 6, 2021 at 10 am in Doyle Cemetery in Starks, LA. Pastor Dan Batchelor will officiate. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton and will resume on Monday from 8-9 a.m. Words of comfort may be shared with the Vice family at www.hixsonvinton.com
