James Gill Turner, 76, of Vinton, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was born to his late parents, Donald and Geraldine Turner on June 23, 1948 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Gill was a proud patriot and served our country in the United States Army. He loved all sports, especially baseball. Gill was a collector of baseball memorabilia and coin collecting. He was an avid outdoorsman, including fishing, hunting, and crabbing. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to Delta Downs, where he loved to play Sun and Moon penny machines.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sonya Elaine Turner; one son, Jamie Turner (Ann-Marie) of Dallas, Texas; mother-in-law, Hilda Perkins; along with two granddaughters, Kennedy Faulkner (Dylan) and Kaitlyn Medina (Eddie); three great grandchildren, Lilly Ann Espinoza, Elias Dempsey, and Hudson Faulkner; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Gill is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cheree’ Dempsey; siblings, Bob Turner (Bobby) and Mary Turner; along with a grandson, Taren Dempsey.
A Celebration of Gill’s life will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton, Louisiana on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 2:00 pm, with Michael Vincent officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, from 12:00 pm until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery in Vinton, Louisiana.
