Born in Huntsville, TX and a longtime Vinton resident and graduate of Vinton High, he was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Charles Nicks and Lillian Maples Nicks Castille as well as his late wife Mary Dee Richard Nicks -- all of Vinton.
Survivors include: step-father John Castille of Vinton; wife Connie Cook Nicks of Bradenton; son Barry and Tiffany Nicks of Bradenton; daughter Susan Nicks and Travis Donnelly of Mobile, AL; step-son Wade and Ashley Cook of Columbus, GA and step-daughter Christi Martin of Phenix City, AL. Grandchildren: Blake and Hampton Donnelly; Chase, Millie and Lauren Nicks. Step-grandchildren: Daniel Cook; Berkley and Ryder Martin; Ty Hurst; Desiree, Alexia and Katelyn Whited.
Barry was a long time employee of Continental Carbon Company in Lake Charles, LA, Phenix City, Al, Houston, TX, Jakarta, Indonesia and Bombay, India. After retiring from Continental Carbon Company, he relocated to Sarasota, Florida where he worked with his son for 8 years. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening as well as spending time with friends and family.
Services will be held at 11AM Thursday, December 10th at Welsh Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton followed by a brief graveside service at the Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 9th from 5-8 PM at the Hixson Memorial Funeral Home-Vinton, and on Thursday, December 10th from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
