William "Bill" Olen Bishop, 92 of St. Francisville, IL pased away Sunday evening October 30, 2011 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born in Vincennes February 13, 1919 to the latge Virgil and Anna (Lawrence) Bishop and lived in Vincennes for most of his life, having moved to St. Francisville in 1989.
Bill attended Vincennes schools and proudly served his country in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific for 5 years. He retired from Dumes, Inc. in 1982 after 27 yuears service and was a member of the American Legion in St. Francisville, IL and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Lawrenceville, IL. Bill came home from the war and married Frances Baum on November 29, 1945 and she preceded him in death on February 4, 1989. He was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Bill is survived by his caregiver, neighbor and friend, Maggie Hunt of St. Francisville and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. John (Carolyn) Dining of Billett, IL, Mrs. Chuck (Patty) Condiff of St. Francisville, Mrs. Kenny (Kay) Rosignol of Lawrenceville, Dolly Maxwell of Robinson and Jerry Birch of Vincennes.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Fairview Cemetery with the Rev, Irwin Bales officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Lawrenceville VFW honor guard. Friends are invited to visit and share memories of Bill on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home 505 Main Street.
