David Michael VanVleet, 64, of Vincennes, passed away Saturday October 8, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Vincennes February 1, 1947 and has lived here for most of his life. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1965, attended Vincennes University and graduated from Purdue University. He served his country in the US Army and was a retired rural postal carrier. He was an active member of the United Pentecostal Tabernacle and enjoyed stamp and coin collecting.
David is survived by his mother, Gwen (Knight) VanVleet and his sister, Linda Hensley, both of Marion, 2 aunts, Sally Hoops of Monroe City, Jackie Hall of Texas, an uncle Kyle Knight of Vincennes and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Earl VanVleet, Jr. on August 21, 2011 and a sister Nancy VanVleet.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home 505 Main Street. The Rev. Loy A. Baird will officiate. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Marion National Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home.
