After 15 years in Hogansville, he moved to Atlanta and attended Washington High School. He graduated in 1952 and that summer enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married his first wife Barbara, and they had one child, Sharon, in 1955.
During his career in the Air Force, he was stationed in Atlanta, GA. In 1960 he relocated to Greenville, SC for approximately 6 years then relocated to Savannah, GA and then relocated to San Bernardino, California which would be his permanent home in 1974. It is here in California where he completed 34 years of service in the military active duty and received a host of badges of honor. After his military career, he began a very successful second career as a financial planner with Merrill Lynch for approximately 10 years.
He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity in 1976 with the San Bernardino Alumni Chapter. He became a joint member of Riverside Alumni Chapter and San Bernardino Alumni Chapter. In Riverside Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, he held the following offices: 1) Social Committee Chair; 2) Vice Polemarch/Vice Predicts; and 3) Polemarch/President. Achievements at Riverside Alumni Chapter: Organized Chapter Annual Sweethearts Brunch; Organized Annual Harbor Cruise; Active in Veterans Affairs, and Coordinator Annual Black and White Ball.
Robert met Vernice, his current wife, and they were married in 2015. During that time, they relocated to Victorville and traveled the world. Robert was no ordinary man he loved his family, and he loved life. He never met a stranger; he was always trying to keep you laughing.
He is survived by his wife, Vernice Miller Jenkins, daughter Sharon Demica Hood (Levert), sister Bessie Monroe, nephews Karl Monroe, Earl Monroe, and Ken Martin, close first cousins, Rudene Lindsey (deceased) and her family Robert and Kami Strickland (Lorne); Kate Parker, Sharita "Ree" Small, Alicia Smith, and Anita Partridge and a host of Towns family members and cousins in Cleveland, Oh. Also, close, and dear friends Claude Ward, Thomas Fisher, Patsy Hankins, and Arthur Brown (deceased).
