Robert Eugene Ault Jr.

April 6, 1938 – March 22, 2019

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Robert “Bob” Eugene Ault Jr., (Retired), age 80, of Victorville, California, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, March 22, 2019.

Bob was a U.S. Airforce veteran and proudly served. He was a 1983 graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy, and in 1977 he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Public Management from Redlands University, Redlands, CA.

Bob began his 26 year law enforcement career in 1963 with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. He retired with the rank of Deputy Chief in 1989. After retirement Bob taught 832 CCW course at San Bernardino Valley College, San Bernardino, CA.

After the couple’s retirement in 1992, they relocated to Lake Havasu City, AZ, where they enjoyed a life of “Boating on the River” for 15 years. He was employed as Jail Supervisor with Lake Havasu City Police Department for 13 years.

In 2008, the couple returned to California where he lived a life of love poured out upon him by his children and grandchildren. He quickly connected with other SBCSD retirees (“Dinosaurs”) whom he faithfully met for 7 a.m. coffee 3 days a week at Starbucks (come rain or shine). He will be greatly missed by his devoted family and friends and will remain forever in our hearts.

Bob loved the Lord; he was a man of high integrity who lead by example. He possessed a contagious smile, an entertaining sense of humor, and a kind and compassionate spirit. He maintained a loving and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many who even now are being affected by his witness. Bob loved his family deeply and instilled in them strong values that have served them well.

He had a passion for reading, relaxing with his two doggies, Lulu and Angel, at his feet; collecting tools and firearms; keeping immaculate vehicles; and teasing Lily at every opportunity.

Preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Ault Sr., his mother, LaVerta, and his brother Patrick. He is survived by is his wife, Lily, of 36 beautiful years, whom he affectionately referred to as “My Love”; his six children, Col. Robert T. Ault, Michael E. Ault, Ph.D., Sonya Hernandez, LaVerta Carr, Lisa Caldera, Gina Marquez, 17 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Sisters Valerie Romero and Susan Weekly and Brother Chris Ault.

A memorial service for Bob will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 12:00 pm at Calvary Chapel of the High Desert, 14740 Eucalyptus Street, Hesperia, CA. Reception to follow.
