Paul Allen Roberts was born on January 19, 1948 to Norman and Leola "Jackie" Roberts in Huntington, WV. He spent his childhood years living in many different places, including Arizona and finally Southern California. While attending Bell High School he joined the Methodist Youth Fellowship at the Maywood Methodist Church. There he met the love of his life, Karen, whom he married on June 24, 1967.
Paul's love of cars began at an early age. While in college he worked for Pickering service station and Tipton Oldsmobile (with a couple years of teaching preschool in the mix). He attended Trade Tech College and California State University Los Angeles to receive his Bachelor's Degree and post baccalaureate courses in Automotive Engineering. With a degree and experience under his belt Paul was able to go on to work for Chrysler, Datsun, and finally became the fleet manager for CF Braun.
At the age of 35 Paul was injured in a work related incident which ended his career but opened up different opportunities. In 1986 he and his family moved to Victorville to start a new chapter in their lives. He was at home to help raise his two daughters, Cindy and Susie. This allowed Paul to pass on his knowledge, teach them how to work on cars and houses, how to drive, and how to be sarcastic. Time allowed him to rekindle his love for trains, build model railroad layouts, and collect HO scale trains. Karen and Paul were able to travel many places by motorhome, including a driving tour of Alaska. Often they took their daughters and their daughters' families with them.
Health problems plagued Paul for many years following his accident. In 2000 Paul was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis which affected his lungs. The large amounts of steroids he had to take to control it caused other health issues as well. Though he wasn't as physically able as he wanted to be, Paul didn't let that stop him from doing the things he wanted to or being with his family that he loved.
On June 22, Paul was admitted to the hospital with sepsis, pneumonia, and Covid19. He was sedated, intubated, and put on a ventilator. For 30 days he fought but his body finally gave in on July 21, 2020.
Paul is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karen; his daughter, Cynthia, and her husband, Elliotte; his daughter, Susan, and her husband, David; his 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
