John was born to Glen and Ginny Hogue in Merced, California, on July 27th,1965. John spent his childhood in Merced with his two brothers, Steve and Paul. At age 3, John was burned along with his brother Steve while playing in a boat that caught on fire in their garage. John suffered 3rd degree burns on his face, forearms, hands, and his lower legs. John developed his strength and determination as he persevered through 15 years of skin grafts, hand surgeries, pain, and scars. These strengths led John on the lifelong path of entrepreneurship.
When John was 18, he moved to Southern California, where he met his bride-to-be and best friend, Lisa Stamey. John and Lisa would marry on April 2nd, 1988. In the Spring of 1990, John and Lisa would have their only child, a beautiful girl named Kiersti Hogue.
John worked for Rancho Foreign Car in Rancho Cucamonga and Moreno Valley for several years. From there, John met Paul Carrillo and started their business, ATech Transmission. ATech would rapidly grow and become a significant business for the High Desert area. This business would allow John to explore his love of the outdoors and create a livelihood that his wife and daughter would enjoy.
John loved deer hunting in his happy place of Lee Vining, California, where he grew up with his brothers, camping and fishing. He developed his love of off-roading and driving the backroads of California, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. He would bring his family along and pass his hunting passion to Kiersti. When they were not off-roading, they were in Lake Havasu, where John loved to go fast in his boat—speeding at 100 mph with his hair in the wind or floating in a cove with his family and friends. John loved to be that guy! That guy who would make sure you would have a good time when you were with him and that he would take care of whatever you needed.
As the business and adventures grew, so did his family. On February 16th, 2013, Kiersti married Kory Mangels. Kiersti and Kory would have two children, but more importantly, two grandchildren to “Grammy Lisa and Papa John.” Ashlynn Mangels was born on June 29th, 2013. Ace was delivered by his mother and father in the front seat of their Dodge Ram truck in the Target parking lot on Christmas morning, 2014. John loved being a grandpa, taking part in their adventures, and supporting them in whatever they did, including calf roping and riding horses. He loved being a part of their lives and taking it all in.
John was an integral part of the Hesperia and Victorville communities. He was a member of Rotary and Friends of the Fair. John and Lisa often bid and purchased the champion steer, sheep, or pig to support the local 4H and FFA. He was proud to help his community and friends.
John and Lisa planned to retire to Meadview Arizona as they recently built a new home and were preparing it for the future.
John was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Hogue. His immediate family survives him: wife Lisa Hogue, daughter Kiersti (Kory) Mangels, grandchildren Ashlynn and Ace, parents Glen and Ginny Hogue, brother Paul (Andrea) Hogue, and their three children.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday June 15th at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds Building # 6 Beginning at 11:am
