ELIZABETH MAE RINGGOLD (Liz) was born in St. Louis, MO on December 29, 1929 to the late Alonzo Wallace and Rosetta Mitchell. On July 17, 2015, after a protracted illness, Liz was called home to our Lord.
Upon moving to California with her mother Rosetta and her children, she obtained a job working for Hollywood Park for over 20 years to provided for her family. While living in Inglewood, she rose to the occasion and volunteered for the City of Inglewood taking care of Median Flower Gardens. After retiring from Hollywood Park she continued her role as the family matriarch. She pursued her main passion; being there for her family in good and bad times. Elizabeth was always dedicated to her family, friends, and community. She was well respected and a charter member of United in Christ Baptist Church of Apple Valley. She lived life to the fullest, sharing and enjoying great conversations along with food, family and friends. While on her journey she had a continued love of horse racing and Baseball. She was a great fan of the LA Dodgers and Lakers number one fan.
On a number of occasions she would take a train ride to San Diego to spend time with family and friends.
While living in Apple Valley she continued her passions by being a proactive member of the Red Hat Society also referred to as “Red Hatters.” Their motto is “Red Hatters Matter”. They’re inspired by other women and are dedicated to encouragement of a positive life outlook through the sisterhood of a local chapter.
Liz was once married to the late Albert Lee Ringgold.
Elizabeth leaves to mourn with cherished memories: her devoted companion Alfred Johnson, her children Donna Walker, Albert Ringgold, Larry Ringgold, Horace Wallace, Harold Fletcher, Arnold Ringgold, John W. Ollison III, Gerald Brown and LaMar Graham and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, family and friends. She is predeceased by her devoted daughter, Joyce Ringgold-Brown-Thompson, son Donald Ringgold, and granddaughter Mignon Young.
