On June 15, 1950, Virgie Lou and her husband James Thomas Lyon gave birth to a baby boy at St Bernadin's hospital in San Bernardino. His name was Charles Thomas Lyon. Soon followed a baby brother, Jerry William Lyon.
The family settled into a life in San Bernardino, his father becoming a carpet layer and his mother a stay-at-home mom. The family did well, Tom and his mother putting on the religious mantle and his father and brother not so much. Life was going smoothly, but the addition of a baby sister, Terri Lee Lyon made it necessary for the family to find new living arrangements Tom's father moved the family to Hesperia California and there they started their new life.
The family flourished in the high desert. Tom made friends wherever he went, church and school. After he graduated high school Tom enrolled in VV college. At this time, he got married to Bonnie Ross Lugo and they had two boys Charles Thomas Lyon and Nathan Lyon. Later on, came two stepchildren Amanda and Maggie Lugo.
The marriage did not last so Tom moved front he high desert to go to San Diego State University and also left the church at that time to go out on his own. Tom did well in his classes but without family and church guidance he was unable to accomplish his goals and left college before completion. He worked fixing cars in garages and gas stations. His life was in chaos, but the chaos wasn't permanent. He answered an ad to work with handicap and special needs children at San Bernardino County Superintendent of schools.
This marked a change in his life. He enrolled back in college and completed his degree. He continued SBCSS where he worked for 20 years with special needs students.
But God wasn't through with him yet. The Lord led him through the doors of Destiny Christian Church in 2006. Order was now established back in his life. He immediately became active in the congregation. He joined the unseen hands ministry and later taught in the children's ministry. Tom flourished in the congregation establishing friends and relationships.
Then came the surprise cancer diagnosis, which changed everything. He kept his faith until the very end. Tom was always proudest of his ability to make friends and leave no enemies. He will be missed by so many.
