William "Bill" John Swope, age 68, of Port Lavaca, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Bill was born January 2, 1954 in Victoria, TX to Amy Corrine Smith Swope and John T. Swope. Bill was an operator for DuPont now Invista for 32 years.
Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Deborah Howard Swope; his sons Barrett Swope, Phillip Swope all of Pt. Lavaca; his sister Terry Stringham Sauer of Victoria; three grandchildren, Will Swope, Carleigh Swope, and Bellah Swope. Bill had a huge network of family and friends whom he loved and had shared many fond memories.
Bill was dedicated to community service especially groups involving the youth of Calhoun County. He was currently on the Calhoun County Appraisal Board for 14 years. He served on the Calhoun County School Board for 11 years along with numerous other organizations.
Bill was a die-hard Texas Longhorn fan. He recently got hooked on Texas Women’s volleyball. He loved playing golf with family and friends. Hunting with his sons and grandchildren was something he looked forward to every year. He also enjoyed fishing with his friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his father John T. Swope and his mother Amy Corrine Smith Swope.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 1-2 at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca with the funeral service to begin at 2 PM. Burial will follow in Port Lavaca Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Matt Howard, Jacob Howard, Michael Howard, Casey Stringham, Tim Strakos and Marty Strakos.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill McGrath, Frank Smith, Marvin Strakos, Randy Shafer (in spirit) and Gary Westbrook.
